Old Apple Trees and Heavy Snowfall. Wolfville, N.S. 2023 I visited an old overgrown orchard near my home in the morning of our first “snowstorm” of the season. The heavy snowfall created a winter wonderland. Every twisted branch weighed down with snow. Difficult conditions to work in but absolutely beautiful...

Ice Forms at Dawn. Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve. 2023 I hiked to a far corner of the watershed before sunrise. Ice had started to form yesterday and this morning only a few sections were still clear. The forming ice reflected the dawn sky beautifully.
At the Still Water’s Edge. Queens Co., N.S. 2023. I found a place along the bank of the peninsula to land the kayak. With my tripod precariously set at water’s edge I framed this intimate scene of lily pads and pickerel weed. What an incredible habitat!
A Little Show of Colour. Black River, N.S. 2021The small bush standing alone at the water’s edge glows at first light. I found the painterly reflection and simple symmetry captivating. These types of intimate landscapes aren’t the most popular but for me they hold the deepest meaning. Thank you for following my work and I hope you enjoy this little splash of light and colour.
Ethereal Morning, Queen's Co. N.S. 2020Ethereal Morning! I made this photograph late last summer near the Tobeatic Wilderness in Nova Scotia. The combination of light and mist on the lake at dawn was breathtaking. An absolute gift and a reward for not sleeping in on holiday. Sublime light!

Autumn Twilight, Gaspereau River. 2023 I hiked along the river’s edge before sunrise through a light fog. I found a scene I had noticed the day before but conditions weren’t right to make a photograph. Now I was blessed with a soft, cool light that transformed the scene and absolute stillness essential for the long exposure.

Standing here in the glow of twilight before the darkness falls, I can hear the gulls’ cries echoing off the cliffs behind me and the voice of the moon in the currents beyond the spires
Pickerelweed Form, Telfer Lake, Queens Co. N.S. 2014I’d like to share a photograph I made while wading through the shallows of Telfer Lake in Caledonia, Queens County. I use black and white to remove the distraction of colour and enhance the beautiful lines and form of the water plants and the shadows they cast on the calm lake reflecting the dark clouds in the sky.
Reflected Sun, Telfer Lake. Queens Co. N.S. 2014Wading in the shallows of Telfer Lake with my camera I noticed the sun’s reflection as it appeared burning through a break in the overcast skies above. I fumbled to quickly position my tripod on the muddy lake bottom, holding my breath as I waited for the ripples to disappear. I wanted to place the sun at the tip of the motionless pickerel weed’s shadow. This image is a highlight of my photographic journey thus far. One of those rare, exciting (and elusive) moments when absolutely everything comes together when I click the shutter. A minute later the wind was up and the sun was too bright to make this photo possible.
Twilight Tracks, Grand Pré. 2015Following tracks into the glow of twilight at the edge of the Grand Pré dykes in the Land of Evangeline. As the darkness gave way to twilight I could see many tracks winding and circling through the park. I imagined the nocturnal pack racing back to dens before sunrise and wished I could have watched.

Basalt and Tree. Jodrey Trail, Cape Blomidon, N.S. 2015A black and white photograph from the fog-enshrouded Jodrey Trail at Blomidon Provincial Park early this morning. The simple form, tone and texture of the basalt outcropping and weather-shaped tree emerged from the mist and reminded me of an ink drawing.

Amethyst Cove Agate Detail. 2014From Amethyst Cove, between Cape Split and Cape Blomidon in Nova Scotia, one can discover an incredible variety of agates. Formed in the Early Jurassic North Mountain Basalt, these treasures are released by the powerful freeze-thaw cycle of our Bay of Fundy winters and the world’s highest tides. Photographing them using full spectrum light records accurate colour and a micro lens reveals extraordinary details, capturing stunning colours, inclusions, shapes and patterns inherent in Nature's artistry. It is thrilling to find a beautiful agate in the rough and discover what lies beneath the surface.
Symphony of Light, North Medford. 2016 For a few glorious minutes the light over the Minas Basin at dawn created a scene of sublime beauty. One of those very rare moments when all of the natural elements seem to come together. I consider this a gift. Stunning and unforgettable. This is the reason I make and share landscape photographs!
Winter Window on Cape Blomidon. 2016 High on sandstone arch at North Medford catching the beautiful light at dawn, a perfect framing for a snow covered Cape Blomidon in the distance! This is a photograph I had visualized many times but was never able to capture until this moment. I love how sandstone seems to absorb the ambient light and glow with the subtle magentas of dawn.

Sunrise, North Grand Pré Community Church. 2019The Community Church in North Grand Pré catches the glow of the sun as it rises over the dykes. This little wooden church dates back to 1861. This photograph was taken from the edge of the property where I grew up.
