Twilight Trees. North Medford, N.S. 2023 I noticed the small thicket of trees on another outcropping with the backdrop of a vibrant twilight sky and made several photographs until the light was gone. This was my favourite of those.

Ice Forms at Dawn. Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve. 2023 I hiked to a far corner of the watershed before sunrise. Ice had started to form yesterday and this morning only a few sections were still clear. The forming ice reflected the dawn sky beautifully.

Autumn Twilight, Gaspereau River. 2023 I hiked along the river’s edge before sunrise through a light fog. I found a scene I had noticed the day before but conditions weren’t right to make a photograph. Now I was blessed with a soft, cool light that transformed the scene and absolute stillness essential for the long exposure.

Pickerel Weed and River Foam. Mickey Hill Provincial Park in Graywood, N.S. 2023 Morning sun catches the Pickerel weed in an eddy at Mickey Hill. I made several exposures before the light was too harsh, each a different composition due to the swirling current. I was very pleased with this one!
At the Still Water’s Edge. Queens Co., N.S. 2023. I found a place along the bank of the peninsula to land the kayak. With my tripod precariously set at water’s edge I framed this intimate scene of lily pads and pickerel weed. What an incredible habitat!
Ethereal Morning, Queen's Co. N.S. 2020Ethereal Morning! I made this photograph late last summer near the Tobeatic Wilderness in Nova Scotia. The combination of light and mist on the lake at dawn was breathtaking. An absolute gift and a reward for not sleeping in on holiday. Sublime light!

I set up quickly hoping the sun wouldn’t come out and then had to wait patiently for a lull in the breeze to make this photograph. Sometimes we are blessed with these moments and I think it will make a fine print.

Off the Beaten Path. Greenfield, N.S. 2023 I followed a bear path through a tangled maze of thorns and brambles rich with the textures and colours of late Autumn.
Ethereal Morning, Vernal Pool at Blomidon Park. 2023 I hiked through very thick fog to the vernal (ephemeral) pool along the Jodrey Trail. I arrived as the sun started to break through the fog casting a glow on the trees and grasses.
Hillside Birch. Blomidon Provincial Park. 2023 I love the form of this Birch. I have visited it before and enjoy seeing it in different seasons. Especially with the rich textures and colours of Autumn. I think the character emerges from the chaos of the steep hillside, reaching in all directions from the shadows.

Glowing Larch. Kings Co. N.S. 2023 I love the look of the Tamarack or Eastern Larch this time of year. The only deciduous conifer in Nova Scotia. These trees were found at the edge of a bog near Cambridge.

Alone on the Peninsula. 2023.An old lichen covered tree stands on a peninsula on a remote lake in Queens Co. I reached this scene by kayak. I’m excited by the first glimpse of Fall colour. This is the first from a series of photographs I made this past weekend on a trip into the wilderness. Beautiful.
